There is a magnificent History and Profile of North Bennington on line, which I cannot improve upon. It is titled www.northbenningtonvillage.org and it illustrates not only the history & character of the village but also its profile. Don’t miss it!! It’s the best I have ever read explaining a town or village. I hope the author (anonymous) will know how much it is appreciated.

For me, a lifelong resident of Bennington I see the quintessential Vermont village life that I remember from the late 1940’s and 50’s where kids can literally ride their bikes to school, play baseball at the Little League Park and swim at their own lake. In addition there is a community spirit and pride that is evident in every corner of the Village.

They are entitled to bragging rights for all of the following and more:

Sage City Symphony, Sage City Syndicate which is a group of local citizens who invest in maintaining the character of the village by purchasing properties that will benefit from improvement, The Village School, McCullough Foundation, Southshire School, The Lake Paran Association, The Village Green with fountain and benches are all within its borders. It is a National Historic Site on the National Historic Register.

Cultural events and community are closely tied together with a Halloween Parade that includes parents with their elementary students, an Easter Egg Hunt, a winter time Penguin Plunge at local Lake Paran, Croquet on the lawn at The McCullough Mansion, and concerts at their Carriage Barn, Happenings at Power’s Market, gardening for students at Hiland Hall, a village art show with local artists and the wonderful overflow from Lake Paran that runs through the town with a terrific waterfall!

Not bad for a village of 1,643 people (2010 census)!!! ……and there is a fulltime Library, excellent dining and a major college, Bennington College a walk up the hill…….

North Bennington is the top choice for young families desiring The Village School for pre-k and elementary education. Residential inventory is always short in supply and there can be a waiting list for homes.
